The Xpert System

What is special about the Xpert System?

The system is the first to fully automate and integrate all the steps required for PCR-based DNA testing: sample preparation, DNA amplification and detection. Designed to simplify hands-on preparation, the system provides PCR test results from a raw sample in about an hour, enabling time-critical DNA tests at the point of need.

Xpert MRSA

Effective prevention of hospital-acquired Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections begins with active surveillance programs that facilitate timely interventions to decrease the spread of MRSA. Cepheid's Xpert™ MRSA delivers on-demand results in about an hour, reducing the window for potential transmissions from days to minutes, and redefining active MRSA surveillance testing. Coupled with the simplicity of Cepheid's GeneXpert® System, MRSA results can now be available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

To significantly reduce hospital-acquired MRSA infections, it is also important to actively identify and isolate patients that may be colonized with MRSA. Cepheid's Xpert MRSA is designed to provide on-demand results to optimize the effectiveness of active MRSA surveillance testing as a part of a heathcare organization's Infection Control Program.

Xpert EV

A powerful solution is now available for fast detection of Enteroviral meningitis – Cepheid’s Xpert™ EV. Designed to significantly enhance patient management, results from Xpert EV (available in about 2.5 hours) provide critical answers when they matter most. Today, waiting 2-15 days for culture results is no longer your only option. Coupled with the simplicity of Cepheid’s GeneXpert® System, on-demand EV results can be available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The impact of Cepheid’s Xpert EV is substantial: Identifying those patients with Enterovirus and helping to rule out bacterial meningitis quickly allows for appropriate management of patients. Timely answers provides assurance to patients and their families which helps to reduce anxiety.

Xpert GBS

Now rapid intrapartum or antepartum GBS results can be available in less than 75 minutes versus 2 days. This revolutionary in vitro diagnostic test is the first and only molecular test designed to be run in the clinical lab and near-patient by non-laboratory professionals such as labor and delivery nurses — 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Xpert™ GBS is the only in vitro diagnostic test to fully meet the CDC criteria for rapid intrapartum GBS testing. Cepheid’s Xpert GBS assay empowers clinicians to make appropriate patient management decisions at the time of delivery.



The SmartCycler System
Prep. Amplify. Detect.



Rapid, precise heating and cooling of the reaction mixture to target temperatures significantly reduces cycling protocol times. The SmartCycler System's combined fast thermal ramp rates and real-time detection greatly reduce the total time required to carry out an experiment. Additionally, the ability to perform multiple cycling protocols simultaneously, and to detect multiple targets in a single run, increases lab productivity.

The modular nature of the SmartCycler System gives laboratories a great deal of flexibility to meet varying workload demands. System capacity can be easily and cost-effectively upgraded in multiples of 16 module units.
